February Whale Watch Trip
Corinne wanted a whale watch trip for her birthday. How could I deny that – especially when I get to go with her! One thing she really wanted to see was a spy hop. Unfortunately, as it pertains to humpbacks and especially during their time in the Hawaiian islands, spyhopping is a fairly uncommon activity. [...]

Bathroom Guest
Went to take a shower today and I was surprised (not startled) to see a rather large gecko chilling on the wall of the shower. For what it’s worth, I rotated the image 90 degrees. The gecko was hanging on the wall head-down. I think the original pose (vertical) detracted from the shot, so I [...]

Christmas on Maui
Without any family on the islands, the routine we had fallen into for spending our holidays is gone. This year, I decided that it’d be fun to go out on a whale watch since Pacific Whale Foundation was running them still on Christmas. It’s still fairly early in the whale season here, but there are [...]

Monk Seal Black Friday
Instead of spending hours and hours in stupid lines to fight stupid people for stupid things that we don’t really need anyway, we set out to see if we could spot any whales from shore today. While it’s still a bit early in the season for regular shore sightings, the whales are in the area [...]

Sunset Over Kaho’olawe
Went out to snap some sunset pics yesterday. I decided to head south and ended up pretty much as far south you can go without looping around the other side of the island and traverse Hana. Here’s a shot with the sun setting behind Kaho’olawe from the beautiful standpoint of La Perouse Bay.

Kite Beach
I woke up yesterday and it was windy. Really windy. Generally speaking, this is a bit odd. We have a rather predictable cycle where it’s calm in the morning, the wind picks up in the late morning / early afternoon for a few hours and then dies back down again. Plus, I get up early [...]

Molokini Crater & Turtle Town Snorkel Trip
Took a trip to Molokini Crater yesterday and did some snorkeling. It was a great time and I got a few nice photos. There’s a small series that I haven’t processed and published yet since they’re pretty specific and very cool, so I want to handle them separately and make a separate post about them. [...]

New Camera Time — Canon PowerShot G12
My Canon PowerShot A710-IS is pretty much dying. Let me rephrase that: the camera is still in GREAT shape and takes great pictures, but the camera just burns through fresh batteries in about a half hour. The fact that the images it takes are still great is the only shame. Despite owning a Canon 30D [...]

Galleries Are Fixed Now — NextGEN Gallery Not Displaying Thickbox Images
After laying down for bed, I had an epiphany last night and got up and based away at the keyboard for a bit. Luckily, the effort wasn’t wasted, as I was able to fix the issue that caused the problem in the first place. The long story boiled down is that the ThickBox can find [...]

WP Is Pissing Me Off
I updated WP to the latest version on 7/15. Since then, my image gallery hasn’t been working properly. Specifically, the Thickbox display effect simply doesn’t load the image. No idea why. In the meantime, I’ve disabled the Thickbox display until I can figure out why. …I’m really annoyed.
