I mentioned how I’ve spent a ton of money lately on stuff. I decided to up the ante a bit and went ahead and bought a new TV (well, technically a monitor, but the difference is moot for me), a new receiver (technically a “HTIB” setup without a DVD player) and a new DVD player. The initial plan was to do all this after we get back from Hawaii, but I got a bit impatient and also saw a good deal on the TV, so I wanted to act when the time felt right.

The receiver came yesterday and the TV came today. The DVD player is supposed to show up Tuesday, but I’m hoping it ends up getting here on Monday. I called Comcast today and ordered an HD cable box. Unfortunately, they’re all out and it’ll probably be about 2 weeks before I can get one. Meh. I’m mostly interested in getting the DVD player.

I also got a set of component cables for my Wii today as well, so I got to see some nice 480p, 16:9 Zelda – and it looks good! Having the widescreen will also make things like multiplayer Wii Sports a lot easier.

Other than the DVD player and cable box, I want to pick up a nice roll of speaker cable. The cable I have now is just a wee bit too short for the rear speakers and it’s a bit messier looking than I like. I also want to get a nice all-in-one remote, probably a Logitech Harmony. Not sure which model yet, but most of them should be sufficient.

But for now, I’m just going to relax and watch some TV and ignore the gigantic mess I’ve made of the living room.
